Pharmacy Expert Q&A's
Name: Esther

Question:
I have had a full hysterectomy this past November. I have hot flashes and trouble sleeping. Should I do the progesterone creams ?

Answer:
Yes. When the ovaries are removed, both estradiol, progesterone and testosterone levels drop. (as if in menopause) One of the functions of progesterone is to protect the lining of the uterus, but we have receptor sites for progesterone in our brains, bones & breasts! Progesterone can help balance the estradiol dose. OTC strength progesterone cream is usually 20mg. Dosing might need to be a bit higher....but it should help! Hope that is helpful. Terri
