Ask Dr. Denise Lamothe Q&A's
Name: donna

Question:
Hi, I am 5'5 51 years old and weigh right now 169. The past few years I have weighed in the 150's with a low of 145, this last year my mom passed away and I just seemed to start gaining, I had always kind of followed weight watchers, I am premenospausal, have started back to the gym but seem to be getting a thicker waist as I do do you know of a cardio amount to set a goal at for say a month, am I doing too much. Everyone keeping urging me to go more and do more it doesn't seem to be helping.

Answer:
Hi, Donna -- I can't advise you about cardio. First, I am not a cardiologist nor an exercise physiologist. Please seek guidance from someone skilled in that area

It does sound like you may have hormonal issues as well as emotional issues following your loss. Please get a copy of my book, The Taming of the Chew. This will give you an overview of eating issues that I imagine you will find helpful. The key is finding balance and coming to a peaceful place with your feelings and your body. Be gentle with yourself and educate yourself via the book. It will give you lots of suggestions for dealing with weight issues, etc. Best of Luck!
