Medical Doctor Q&A's
Name: Nessa

Question:
I did a home menopause test on the 17 and 19 day of my cycle and another one subsequnetly on the first day. The first two results were negaive but the last one positive. I am 48 years and have not symptoms yet.I Am at a loss to explain the results.

Answer:
Home "menopause tests" are a complete waste of your money.
The average age of menopause in the US is 51 and at age 48, you are getting close. The two questions to be answered
are: What are your menstrual cycles doing and are you having hot flashes? If your cycles are completely normal and you are having no hot flashes, you are making normal amounts of estrogen from your ovaries and are not menopausal or perimenopausal.
If you want to be more accurate, you can do blood levels of estradiol at days 10, 17 and 24 of your cycle.
