Medical Doctor Q&A's
Name: Stacey

Question:
I had a baby in November 2004. It was my third c-section and I had a tubal ligation done. My periods have been pretty regular. A bit heavy at times, like where I soak thru a super tampon in about 2 hours. This month I have been having signs of my period coming for the past 2 weeks. But no period. I took a pregnancy test, it came out negative. Any suggestions what might be happening? I'm quite concerned!!!!

Answer:
It is likely that your problem is due to a hormonal imbalance. You are probably not making enough progesterone from your ovaries at this point. You should have the doctor give you a progesterone shot and this will bring on a period.
By the way, it in not uncommon to have hormornal imbalances
following a tubal ligation since the surgery can affect the function of the ovaries.
