Medical Doctor Q&A's
Name: diana

Question:
Am 16 year old and I don't get my period every month. I might get it 4 or 5 times a year. And it last maybe 6 days. Is this normal? Should a see a doctor? Should a tell my mom? Because I read that if you don't get your period every month you may not have kids. Am a virgin so it can't be because am pregant. Help please

Answer:
The fact that you only have 4 or 5 periods a year at age l6 could be normal for you or you could have some hormonal problems. You should certainly tell your mother and the two of you should make an appointment with a gynecologist.
He/She will run tests and be able to help the problem. There is no reason that you should not be able to have children in the future.
