Ask Dr. Denise Lamothe Q&A's
Name: Debbie

Question:
I am just starting to go through menopause. What bothers me the most is the weight gain around my stomach area. In reading the various message boards it seems like no one can lose weight. No one posts a success story. I guess what Im asking is if you watch your diet and exercise is it possible to get your figure back when you are menopausal.

Answer:

Hi Debbie. Our bodies do change after menopuse and often out metaolism slows. Take the very best care of yourself as you can right now. it is a time to treaat your body with tenderness. You do not have to gain alot of weight. Check with your healthcare person about homone balancing, eat well -- no sugar, caffeine, lots of water, complex carbohydrates and protein. I also suggest you read The Schwarzbein Principle by Diana Schwarzbein to help you to understand the weight gain around your middle. Best of luck!
