Pharmacy Expert Q&A's
Name: lisa

Question:
I had a hysterectomy about 4 years ago, using 2 vivelle dot patches. About a year ago I started having hair shedding. Its been a year now & having a lot of hair loss. My thyroid is good, low progesterone. Would over the counter( natural woman) progesterone help my hair loss? If so how long before noticing a difference? Thank you.
Lisa

Answer:
Lisa,
What strength is your Vivelle Dot? How old are you? Hormone imbalance can contribute to hair loss. I always think women should take progesterone with estradiol, however, the OTC progesterone may not be strong enough. Low Testosterone, thyroid & Cortisol issues can also be a factor. I would consider doing blood testing of all your hormones, estradiol, progesterone, DHEA, testosterone (free & total). I would be happy to work with you & your doctor to "balance" your hormone replacement. I would give yourself 2 months to note changes in hair.
