Hi. I am 49 and started having flooding periods 2 years ago for 3 months. After that things seemed to straighten out, then came constant spotting, then back to flooding. The last episode sent me to the ER because of severe back pain which I never had before. I had some tests, sonograms, bloodwork, every thing seemed okay. My gynecologist scheduled a D & C Jan 3rd with hysteroscopy. Found no polyps, fibroids, and lining came back normal. Question: this is day 13 since the D & C and I am still bleeding like a regular period and having cramps and still some labor like back pain. No fever. Is this normal? Second Question: where do I go from here? Prometrium or balloon ablation? I am so confused. I just need this to end. Tired of my life being ruled by heavy flooding periods.

My advice at this point is to try Prometrium 400mgm daily until the bleeding stops and then cycle it every 2 weeks for several months. If the bleeding or spotting continues despite this, then an ablation procedure would be the best treatment. Phillip Warner, M.D. (OB-GYN) |
