Pharmacy Expert Q&A's
Name: Karen

Question:
I have been losing my hair for 4 years. It is getting thinner every day. My iron level has been low so I am taking prescription iron. My hair loss has not stopped. Last year my DHEA was on the high side as well as testerone level. I am taking herbs and vitamins and seen a hair loss specialist who said I did not have the genetic gene for baldness. What else can I take that might help?

Answer:
Dear Karen,
Hair loss can be a result of many different things. Two common reasons women experience hair loss is hormone imbalance and thyroid disorders. Have you had your hormone (estradiol and DHT in addition to the DHEA and testosterone you mentioned below) and thyroid levels checked? If not I would suggest starting there. If the hair loss is due to one of these reasons, then regulating yo thyroid or hormones can help. If you do have hormone imbalance we can help you regulate your hormones by clicking on the link below. Some other options you can discuss with your Doctor are medications such as spironolactone or a herbal supplement called Saw Palmetto that many women try for hair loss.
