I'm a 58yr. Old woman in menopause 3 years and on synthroid for hypothyroidism.I Also use EString. I'm concerned about joint pains in my fingers as well as deterioration happening with back pain in my spine. I was diagnosed (at 50) with Osteoporosis.My Endo insists that drugs such as Boniva,Actonel,etc. Are a must for me to take. My Mom had breast cancer and I'm afraid to take replacement hormones.I Have already had a breast biopsy for calcifications in both breasts. what type of therapies would you suggest for me? Safety is an issue.

Dear Marsha:
Estring will not give you enough estrogen to solve the lack of internal estrogen problems, such as the aches and pains in the bones and joints, as well as the osteoporosis problem. We can offer the natural bioidentical HRT, which would be safer than synthetics, but not give you a definite 100% chance of no cancer. If you want to try them, then fill out the history form in the patient empowerment program and submit it back to us for a consultation and then a suggestion for therapy for you. To use a low dose would probably be OK for you, and then, yes, I would use the Actonel or Boniva along with it to protect you from further bone problems.
