Question of the Day

Q: I think the hardest thing for me right now is visually seeing and feeling my body change, as if it is out of control. I exercise regularly, have always been the right weight for my height and age, and suddenly, I am gaining weight. I still feel like a young woman with virtually the same interests, but my body isn't cooperating even though I just turned 53. Does your book speak to this transition? May I ask, have you gone through menopause yourself or experienced any of its symptoms?

A: Yes, yes and yes. I know how you feel. It can be disconcerting to do what you do and to see your body change despite all your efforts. I do talk about this in my book and just want to say that it does require an adjustment. We have to get used to our new looks and redefine our sense of attractiveness as our bodies change. You're in good company.

Best,
Stephanie Marston
